SUMMARY:

Pharmacy Technician assist pharmacy with pharmacy prior authorization, central processing of prescription, and communication with patients through oral oncolytics compliance and adherence programs via refill reminders and follow up calls.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

  • Call and properly document all refill reminder prescription calls
  • Process prior authorizations requests in a timely manner as indicated by pharmacy objective
  • Call insurance for updates on prior authorizations and appeals
  • Assist Oncolytic Nurse Navigator with patient follow up calls for compliance and adherence and documentation of oncolytics in medical records
  • Process prescription orders for OCPs as indicated by pharmacy objective – not limited to benefit investigation and resolution of prescription issues
  • Provide coverage of pharmacy technicians
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent communication skills to include oral and written comprehension and expression.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

PHYSICAL DEMAND:  

  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Must be able to drive to various sites so therefore will be exposed to weather and road conditions.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Standing for long periods of time and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Exposed to normal office environment.
  • Ability to work independent to attain company goals.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current Pharmacy Technician with TSBP with good standing
  • Current PTCB with good standing
  • 5 years of experience in recent retail setting required
  • Specialty Pharmacy experience preferred
  • Mail order Pharmacy experience preferred
  • Multi-lingual preferred
  • Typing 50wpm or more
  • Excel spreadsheet proficient
  • High School graduation or GED equivalency

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tasks that Certified Technicians may NOT perform include:

  • Providing drug information to the patient or patient’s agent (patient counseling)
  • Asking questions of a patient or care giver which are intended to limit or screen the interaction with the pharmacist
  • Transfer prescriptions between pharmacies
  • Interpret patient profiles and perform drug use reviews
  • Receive oral prescription drug orders and reducing these to hard copy either manually or electronically

Expectations:

  • Provide as a liaison between patient, pharmacy, and physician office in order to insure patient are compliant and adhering to treatments
  • Communication to pharmacy and clinical staff concerning prescriptions dispensed, shipping, and refill authorizations to insure timely dispensing of medication to patient
  • Ability to converse with patient and provide customer service over the phone
  • Be able to work independently 
  • Be able to self- initiate and creative to find solutions
  • Be able to open minded and adapt to changes in new programs efficiently
  • Strong retail background and assist with pharmacy whenever needed.
  • Strong pharmacy benefit manager experience in mail order or prior authorization


Requirements

  •  Knowledge of Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Word, retail pharmacy programs required
  •  2 years of retail experience in the last 4 years required
  • 1 year experience in a pharmacy benefit manager doing prior authorizations required
  • Mail order experience required
  • Type 50 WPM required
  • Spanish speaking preferred
  • College Diploma preferred
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification is required
