About the Position

The Pharmacy Technician Level 1 assists the Pharmacist in nonjudgmental tasks associated with retail pharmacy practice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greeting patients
  • Customer service
  • Cash register functions
  • Telephone duty
  • Stocking and cleaning the pharmacy shelves
  • Ordering pharmacy stock
  • Clerical duties
  • Ordering and stocking of prescription vials, bottles, and various supplies
  • Maintenance of pharmacy appearance (cleaning)
  • Initiating and receiving refill authorization
  • Data entry of prescriptions
  • Taking a stock bottle from the shelf
  • Preparing and packaging of prescription drug orders (counting)
  • Insurance or third party problem resolution
  • Inventory preparation
  • Ordering
  • Placing orders received into inventory and associated paperwork
  • Daily and weekly reports
  • Loss prevention
  • Maintain security
  • Reconstitution and compound non-sterile prescription drug orders
  • Bulk compounding
  • Affix prescription labels to containers including auxiliary labels
  • Any other duty as delegated by the pharmacist on duty that is not required by law to be performed by a pharmacist

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tasks that Technicians may NOT perform include:

  • Providing drug information to the patient or patient’s agent (patient counseling)
  • Asking questions of a patient or care giver which are intended to limit or screen the interaction with the pharmacist
  • Transfer prescriptions between pharmacies
  • Interpret patient profiles and perform drug use reviews
  • Receive oral prescription drug orders and reducing these to hard copy either manually or electronically
  • Interpret and evaluate prescription drug orders
  • Selection of drug products (brand vs. generic)
  • Perform the final check of the dispensed product before delivery to the patient

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Pharmacy Technician State Registration with TSBP: Pharmacy Technicians are expected to maintain their individual Pharmacy Registration and are encouraged to achieve and maintain an additional PTCB Certification. Oncology Consultants will provide reimbursement for fees associated with continuing education programs targeted to maintain certification. Upon successful PTCB certification and/or Re-certification, submission of proof of completion and fees paid will be reimbursed to the employee.
  • High School graduation or GED equivalency
  • 1 year recent retail pharmacy experience
  • Experience is a plus

LANGUAGE SKILLS: English written and verbal skills. Bilingual Preferred
