About the Position

The position provides quality patient care under the direction of the Director of Imaging, Radiologist, and Practice Administrator. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in all diagnostic imaging procedures. Assumes responsibility for all designated areas of procedures as required, as well as, providing support in any area. Must be able to communicate with patients, radiologists, staff members, and all other internal and external customers.

Qualifications:

  • Able to perform Metric system conversions.
  • Understand CTDI and DLP

Responsibilities:

  • Performs quality control test(s) required prior to exams  

  • Thorough knowledge of cross sectional anatomy 

  • Responsible for and performs diagnostic procedures requiring understanding of anatomical positioning. 

  • Selects correct technical factors on an individual basis and produces quality images with minimal exposure to radiation. 

  • Uses all available radiation protective devices for the safety of self and patient. 

  • Performs pre-exam duties which include verifying referring physician's orders/diagnosis, verifying patient identification, obtaining history, documenting allergies, assessing renal 

function for contrast explaining examination and safety procedures, obtaining all appropriate signed consents and preparing patient for the procedure.  

  • Answers any questions and assists with procedure. 

  • Performs post exam duties which includes explaining and documenting any instructions needed for follow up of exam. 

  • Administers contrast agent for designated examinations under the supervision of the radiologist. 

  • Administers radioisotope under the supervision of the radiologists 

  • Uses the appropriate personal protective equipment related to the exam. 

  • Limits and refrains from personal conversations and/or phone calls that can be overheard by patients. 

  • Practices sterile techniques, preventing cross contamination. 

  • Practices safe sterilization and infection control after each exam. 

  • Reports any allergic reaction or injuries to the radiologist immediately and maintains adequate records on patients as needed or directed. 

  • Performs examination appropriate to protocol. 

  • Processes and submits data to Radiologists for interpretation. 

  • Prepares CDs and other appropriate paperwork.  

  • Ensure previous comparison studies are obtained and uploaded by appropriate staff. 

  • Maintains accurate records required by all governing bodies  

  • Must be familiar with code procedures with the ability to respond quickly to unusual or emergency situations, and the location and use of emergency equipment. 

  • Assists patients on and off of examination tables in a safe manner 

  • Escorts patients to proper examination area within the center. 

  • Uses safety precautions when using any equipment, stretchers, chairs, and step stools 

  • Provides immobilization as required 

  • Practices safe sterilization techniques after each exam 

  • Maintains a neat and orderly work environment 

  • Keeps room stocked with supplies at all times 

  • Reports any break down or equipment mat function to management immediately.  

  • Completes proper paper work as necessary. 

  • Accurately, notes procedures performed for billing office purpose.  

  • Does not discuss examination results/finding with the patient's family without direction from the radiologist. 

  • Attends all in service meetings and reports any incidents to center manager 

  • Represents the center with a positive, professional attitude and professional and professional appearance in all activities and communications. 

  • Calculate, measure and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed, using computer and following physician's prescription. 

  • Dispose of radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceuticals, following radiation safety procedures. 

  • Prepare radiopharmaceuticals, adhering to safety standards that minimize radiation exposure to workers and patients. Practice "ALARA". 

  • Maintain and calibrate creatinine meter and adhere to CLIA standards 

  • Gather information on patients' illnesses and medical history to guide the most appropriate method of imaging or protocol to use. 

  • Train and supervise student or subordinate technologists. 

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Ability to follow directions and use good judgment for situations which require initiative and ingenuity. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate tactfully and effectively with all internal and external contacts. 

  • Business telephone skills 

  • Ensure equipment facility and maintenance. Maintains service documents for inspections. 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREM ENTS: 

  • Satisfactory completion of formal radiology and/or nuclear medicine technology training in an accredited school. 

  • Maintains active status of position and license/certification by continued education requirements as set forth by the policies and procedures. 

  • ls in compliance with continuing education requirements as set forth by credentialing body as well as ACR accreditation criteria. 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Completion of accredited program and successfully obtaining certification through accomplishment of Board Registry examination. 

  • Five years of continuous on the job experience. 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

  • Proficiency of the English language. 

  • Other language skills are encouraged. 

 

REASONING ABILITY: 

  • ls able to critically evaluate problems which present themselves in regards to patient care. 

  • Demonstrates proficiency of scanning protocols and modifications when required. 

  • Able to critically evaluate results of quality control testing and document/report when there is an issue. 

 

CERTIFICATES. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

  • Must be ARRT/CTIRT certified. 

  • Must be a certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist, through ARRT or NMTCB. 

  • Must maintain current state licensure through Texas Department of Health. 

  • Must maintain active CPR status. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to assist in lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds, and places them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment. Requires standing and mobility for extended periods of time. Requires correct use of body mechanics and posture.
