About the Position

The role of the Medical Scribe at PRE is to assist the assigned physician in the completion of patient care data in the EMR system. The Medical Scribe (MS) shadows the MD throughout the patient clinic visit and assists in data collection and entry. The MS may enter verbal orders for patient care, transcribe dictation of physician observations, and create the final MD visit note for physician review and electronic approval / signature. The MS works collaboratively with the MD, clinic Medical Assistant to communicate patient care orders resulting from the clinic visit. The MS functions as a guide to direct the MD to the appropriate areas within the patient medical record for medication orders and review of all documents relating to the patient care. The position requires competency in computer systems, medical terminology, data entry, and strong interpersonal communication abilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · 

  • Accompany physician into the patient examination room in order to transcribe a history and physical exam, and document accurately the physician’s encounter with the patient and others present.
  • List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.
  • Transcribe patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.
  • Document any procedures performed by the physician.
  • Professional bedside manner

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ·

  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Impeccable written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • As well as various Determined by physician based on patient interaction.
  • Create and upload patient start letters in OncoEMR. ·
  • Track and update incoming referrals for MD.
  • Fill out and complete patient’s FMLA paperwork.
  • Create imaging orders when requested by physician.
  • Request Disk for imaging when requested by physician.
